The population the Ally Center serves are often referred to as marginalized, excluded or vulnerable. About the Opportunity
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) works as an independent practitioner within collaborative practice relationships with clinicians at the Ally Health Clinic (Ally Centre) for the purpose of achieving treatment for individuals who utilize their services. The NP utilizes an integrative/multidimensional approach that is biopsychosocial, person centered, culturally sensitive and embraces a harm reduction philosophy.
This position requires work at the health clinic located at the Ally Center in Sydney. Working with a team of health providers and clinicians at the clinic, as well as Ally Center staff including peers with lived and living experience, the NP will collaborate to provide immediate and scheduled health care appointments and services.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
• Completion of a Master of Nursing – Advanced Nursing Practice stream or equivalent nurse practitioner program.
• Current registration (or eligibility) as a Nurse Practitioner, and in good standing with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN).
• Successful Completion of controlled drugs and substances (CDS) education program and registration with the Nova Scotia Prescription Monitoring Program (NSPMP).
• Ideally a minimum of two years recent (within last 5 years) NP experience in a Mental Health and Addictions and/or a primary health setting preferred. However, if there are no applicants with 2 years of NP experience, applicants with less than 2 years’ experience will be considered.
• Has a passion for working with vulnerable populations including those who may be living in poverty, experiencing concurrent disorders, homelessness, involved in street work and/or involvement with the criminal justice system.
• Experience, knowledge and respect in the application of harm reduction and determinants of health practice approaches to client care and engagement in promoting health & supporting recovery
• Ability to promote positive workplace culture, staff morale, cooperation, assertiveness, creative planning for creativity and innovation.
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities, strong ethical standards, a commitment to professional development and life-long learning and the ability to promote client-focused care that demonstrates care for and with clients and significant others, sensitive to diverse cultures and preferences, client advocacy and social justice.
• Adheres to the CRNNS Standards for Nursing Practice and the Code of Ethics, and is responsible and accountable consistent with relevant legislation, professional and ethical standards.
• Current certification in CPR and CPI
• Competencies in other languages an asset particularly Mi’kmaq and/or French

Hours
• The Ally Health Clinic has funding to offer NP services up to the equivalent of 3.5 days per week. The clinic offerings are flexible in that Nurse practitioners interested in offering a number of hours or full days would be welcome. Clinics can be offered during day time hours, early evenings or on weekends.
• Compensation and Incentives
$53.08 - $62.05 hourly (on par with NSH hourly wage)
($64.22 hourly with 25 years of nursing experience)
Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental (based on number of hours/days worked).
As per the COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination Protocol in High-Risk Settings all team members to be fully vaccinated as per NSH recommendations.
